Digital Video Product Manager

DESCRIPTION: Video creation and distribution are two key factors in the success of any digital news operation. A Video Product Manager is expected to be heavily involved with industry trends, technologies, and strategies related to video creation and distribution (e.g. websites, social, OTT). With video increasingly becoming a standard choice for consumers across multiple platforms, it is critical to understand how to create and deliver video across platforms for consumers, as we continue to evolve journalism. The Video Product Manager must be able to identify video opportunities, create and edit videos, and teach best practices for creating and editing video in digital platforms.


  • Provide direction for digital video strategy though research, audience identification, platform determination, and the journalism and business goals of CMG Ohio
  • Execute and lead the execution of digital video strategies across CMGO digital platforms
  • Continuously improve video strategy for the company by capturing and analyzing the appropriate data/metrics, insights, best practices, and then communicating findings with the company
  • Develop and implement video content; identify new opportunities in OTT, apps, and other platforms
  • Lead and collaborate with other departments in CMG Ohio and other CMG locations to manage reputation, identify key contacts, and coordinate actions on both a local and corporate level
  • Actively participate in and organize product QA (Quality Assurance) reviews for any new or updated product prior to release
  • Complete regular product performance summaries and distribute appropriately within the company, identifying successes, challenges, and recommendations
  • Coach and teach video editing and creation across departments within CMG.
  • Ability to work in high-energy, fast-paced environment
  • Maintain a high degree a familiarity with digital video trends
  • Work with content and revenue teams to ensure video execution on a daily basis


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years content creation or optimization experience
  • Ability to create and edit videos
  • Ability to write and edit and present copy to CMGO standards
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as necessary
