WOKV REPORTER JOB ANALYSIS    

What does the WOKV Morning News Reporter do for WOKV?
-arrives at 3:30am and works until 11:30am (hourly @ 40 hours per budget)
-responds to breaking news primarily between Midnight and 12pm
-identifies the Top Local Story using INET research results
-reports Top Local Story on Jacksonville’s Morning News (5am-9am live)
-reports Top Local Story during Midday and News at Noon (recorded or live)
-covers news events during mornings and through Noon
-posts Top Local Story on WOKV.COM via Methode (by 5am each day)
-engages listeners in discussion of top stories via WOKV.COM, Facebook, and Instagram
-actively contributes compelling video and photo content to WOKV’s Instagram from the field
-engages listeners on Top Local Story via Open Mic in the WOKV App.
-records video and takes pictures of breaking news/top stories throughout scheduled work day
-participates in daily news agenda meeting at 9am, helps to set Top Local Story for next day’s Morning News
-offers ideas for news story coverage beyond the Top Local Story
-communicates directly with PM Drive reporter on the handoff of stories/sound
-communicates changes in top story and updates story ideas through Assignment sheet
-develops key contacts with newsmakers in the community/statewide
-seeks out new angles to stories that have already been reported, updates stories
-makes regular beat calls/check-in with assignment desk at Action News
-is prepared to anchor newscasts on Jacksonville’s Morning News and Midday/PM Drive
-reports and anchors coverage of severe weather in the field (and sometimes in anchor chair)
-stays informed and up to date on local and national news stories of interest to the WOKV listeners.
-shares stories/voicers/wraps with other CMG properties through NewsBoss

-develops relationship with assignment desk at Action News, is available to cover breaking news for both WOKV and Action News during morning show.

-a reporter who is dedicated to using process story-telling and only great sound in daily reporting
-an enterprising thinker who creatively takes stories beyond the dial to social and digital platform
-a professional seeking to grow within the organization
How much experience must this individual bring to the job?
-up to one year experience in a newsroom setting

How much experience is preferred?
-at least two years experience as a reporter in radio, TV, multi-media
-Bachelors Degree in journalism or communications
In reviewing the position of Morning News Reporter, a superior candidate MUST have the skills to:
-make an emotional connection to the top story using creative writing and storytelling
-make quick decisions and respond to breaking news at a moment’s notice
-work quickly with digital and social media tools for fast delivery of top stories
-use process storytelling
-maintain a high level of energy and enthusiasm
-participate with news team on execution of our strategic action plan
In addition they should also be strong in their ability to:
-recognize and adapt to new technologies in daily news coverage
-step in to anchor Jacksonville’s Morning News or other scheduled newscasts
-actively participate in learning and training activities within the organization
-participate in/host long-form breaking news or severe weather coverage on WOKV
-collaborate with partners at Action News and other CMG partner stations
