The Palm Beach Post is seeking an experienced and digitally savvy Content Editor to lead a team of full- and part-time staff reporters, and possibly freelancers, along with embedded multimedia staff, to provide wide-ranging, in-depth and daily coverage for municipalities in one of two community zones.
This person will coordinate closely with the other Community Editor to follow a two-pronged community coverage strategy in which reporters produce content that focuses on key topics in their cities. All content will be produced for multiple digital platforms and the editor will determine which stories are free and which are premium. This two-prong approach includes in-depth “premium” watchdog reporting, such as investigative and enterprise content, and a steady daily stream of “free” content, such as breaking news, trend pieces, profiles and human interest stories.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cover topics that appeal to the broader audience and hyper-local concerns of specific communities
Work with a Digital Editor to make ensure that storytelling is done effectively across all platforms
Work with a Digital Editor to help reporters engage with other reporters, either through answering comments on stories, through Facebook pages and/or groups, on Twitter, or meeting with community members in person
Provide investigative coverage to uncover injustices, track how taxpayer’s money is spent and probe potential abuses of power and law
Must also drive a consistent daily stream of news about crime, traffic, schools, events and the opening and closing of restaurants and retail spaces
Drive coverage of people in the community, such as through profiles of neighbors, business owners, school, organization, police, fire-rescue and municipal employees
Must understand how to cover a city visually, by making sure we capture images and videos of moments and daily activities in a city on a day-to-day basis
Be aware of entertainment options in the city and coordinate previews and coverage of events
Help in the coverage of big events, such as The Honda Classic and SunFest, special occasions, such as visits by President Trump, and wide-ranging news events such as hurricanes
Understand and help grow our social media audience in their cities, both with Facebook and Twitter, and, possible new avenues in the future, such as Facebook groups and Instagram
Understand and follow daily, monthly and annual analytics and make necessary adjustments based on trends
Look for innovative, new ways to cover a community
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications preferred
- Branded content/content marketing writing/editing experience
- Strong Social Media Advertising/Marketing experience a plus
- 3 or more years of journalism and experience in the creation of visual and interactive content
- Has a knack for identifying highly shareable and engaging topics and articles within a diverse community
- Robust network of freelance editors and writers
- Experience leading and managing an editorial team
- Ability to flexibly write/edit in many different styles, tones and audiences
- Intense attention to detail
